This is undoubtedly one of the most legendary (if not THE most legendary) of castles from the Loire region. This stunning building, including the galleries on two levels crossing the Cher river, is one of the masterworks from the Renaissance. The castle was eternally marked by the women who occupied it, which is why it is also nicknamed the château des Dames. It used to stand for the fight between Marie de Médicis, King Henri II’s wife and Diane de Poitiers, his mistress. The castle now honours these two important figures from history by preserving the gardens designed by these two women.
